In the name of the impact of the war in the Middle East, abusers have also started to increase the price of bread. This has happened in Korça, where from an observation conducted in bakeries, the increase in the price of this important product was observed only in one entity, where bread is being sold for 150 lek, from 120 lek it was before.
The managers of this entity said that the decision to increase the price of bread is justified by the claim that the price of flour has increased, but after News24 inquired at flour trading points in Korça, the traders categorically denied that they had increased its price. According to them, the price of flour has remained unchanged for two years and is currently traded at 52 lek per kilogram.
From the field observation, it does not appear that other bakeries in Korça have applied price increases. Even from the images provided, prices in most bakeries are unchanged. The case of the increase in the price of bread in an entity in Korça, without any reason justified by production costs, shows a practice of market abuse. Abusers, taking advantage of uncertain economic situations such as the conflict in the Middle East, try to benefit to the detriment of consumers, by increasing prices without a real basis. This phenomenon creates a dangerous precedent, as it may encourage other entities to follow the same model, generating a wave of growth that further burdens consumers and affects the market.
