The Association of German Airports (ADV) has warned that there may be flight cancellations and ticket price increases in the future due to a shortage of jet fuel.

"We fear that even more flights will be canceled, especially by low-cost airlines and to destinations of less tourist importance," ADV CEO Ralph Beisel told tomorrow's edition of German newspaper Welt.

According to him, in the best-case scenario for 2026, the number of passengers will remain at current levels.

"In the worst-case scenario, some airports could face a 10% drop in capacity. Calculated across all airports, this would affect about 20 million passengers," Beisel said.

The war in Iran is disrupting oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, driving up jet fuel prices and forcing some airlines to cancel flights.

"Kerosene prices have been twice as high as before the war for more than two months. We do not expect the situation to normalize in the coming months," Beisel said.
