Prime Minister Edi Rama from the SP Assembly spoke about the price of fuel, as 1 liter of diesel is reaching record levels, reaching over 215 lek per liter.
The government has not yet taken any measures to ease the burden on citizens, unlike other countries so far such as Italy, Spain, but also Serbia, which have intervened in the market with financial packages.
But although late, the head of government announced the measures through the establishment of the Transparency Board.
"The price of oil has not only increased, but is expected to increase further. For this reason, we have put the transparency board into motion, which you remember that we have used before, and we have also made a decision that every day that the price jumps above the ceiling of 220 lek, there will be an immediate 20% reduction in the excise tax on oil. So far, we do not see an impact on other prices, but fortunately we are in conditions where we have a debt and a deficit not only under control, but also quite low, which allows us precisely in such moments to have a space available to not leave anyone alone, considering first and foremost those who are most in need.", he said.
