European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde has dismissed rumors of a possible entry into France's presidential race, clarifying that she has no plans to run for the post of head of state.
In an interview with Euronews, Lagarde stated that she is not a candidate for any political position, but underlined that she will continue to be committed to defending European values and France's role within the European Union.
"I am not a candidate for anything, but I am deeply interested in defending Europe and preserving the framework within which member states operate, including France," she said.
Asked whether she would express this stance through a political campaign or by continuing her work at the head of the ECB, Lagarde replied that she would do so "in whatever capacity would be most effective."
Her statements come after speculation in recent days, fueled by previous comments in which she had left open the possibility of an early departure from the ECB leadership to engage in the public debate on France's political future.
However, Lagarde has already clarified that her priority remains working at the European financial institution and supporting the common European project.
