One of the most widespread and severe winter storms in recent U.S. history has reached its peak, affecting at least 40 states and more than 235 million people. Heavy snowfall, ice and extreme temperatures have paralyzed large areas of the country.

Unusual images from Minnesota have been shared on social media, including spaghetti freezing in mid-air, while temperatures in Minneapolis dropped to extreme levels, with the thermometer dropping to -29°C.

The powerful cold wave has brought not only polar temperatures, but also heavy snowfall and ice to a large part of the US, from Texas and the northwestern states, to the east coast.

US authorities are warning that the country is bracing for the “worst 10 days in 40 years.” The National Weather Service (NWS) announced in its latest bulletin that the storm will be long, including heavy snowfall, catastrophic ice accumulation and extremely cold winds.

Meteorologist Ryan Moy declared that the next 10 days will be the most difficult the US has experienced in the last four decades.
According to him, citizens should prepare for widespread power outages, especially in areas where temperatures are expected to drop below -18°C.
