Analysts Agim Baçi commented today on the decision that is expected to be announced by the Special Court in The Hague for the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army.
In an interview for News24, Baçi expressed his hope that the former KLA leaders will be declared innocent and returned to Kosovo.
"I really hope that the accused who are in The Hague will return innocent to Kosovo. Albanians do not deserve another trial to have them convicted in The Hague. They defended their lands, their families," he said. Baçi said that Kosovo deserves freedom and that the sacrifice of those who lost their lives during the war should be taken into account.
"A few days ago, our neighbors honored the butcher of the Balkans. If the unthinkable happens, every Albanian institution must sit down and understand what it failed to show the world, to see what was done wrong," the analyst declared.
According to him, in the event of a conviction, the institutions of Kosovo and Albania should reflect on the way the issue was handled in the international arena. "The government of Kosovo or that of Albania should reflect so that, if they are convicted, they understand that they have not done a good job of international protection and that the world has not learned 100% of what happened," said Baçi.
In conclusion, he stressed that regardless of the outcome of the process in The Hague, the case should not be considered closed. “Their release should not be the end of what happened,” concluded Baçi.
