While normal vehicle traffic has returned to the Librazhd-Prrenjas national axis since yesterday afternoon, new developments come from the damaged segment in the "Arrave të Gurrës" area, in Dragostunjë, Librazhd, part of the expansion of Corridor VIII.

For a period of several months, works in the area affected by the landslides were temporarily suspended, following a serious geological incident that caused the displacement and subsidence of a escarpment-shaped surface of about 1500 m2. As a result, a segment of the existing national road, a part of the under-construction segment of Corridor VIII, the Librazhd–Xhyrë railway line, and a part of the High Voltage network were destroyed.

To guarantee maximum traffic safety in the temporary segment open to vehicles, the Albanian Road Authority has ordered that no work be carried out in the affected area until an alternative road is completed and opened for traffic.

According to the plan made public, work will begin immediately this week to finalize the project for a 1.3-kilometer temporary road, which will be built parallel to the railway line and along the Shkumbin River. This solution aims to temporarily divert traffic, creating safe conditions for the resumption of interventions on the damaged segment.

The Director of the Albanian Road and Highway Authority, Ami Kozeli, has announced that the construction of the alternative road, from the moment the works start, will last a minimum of 60 days. Only after the completion of this road and its opening to traffic, the suspended works on the segment affected by the massive landslides will resume.

The Arrave i Gurrës area is now considered a critical point due to geological conditions and the impact of field works. Responsible institutions are monitoring the situation to avoid further risks, while the priority remains ensuring the safety of citizens and the smooth running of one of the most important infrastructure projects in the country.

The return of traffic on the Librazhd-Prrenjas axis has significantly facilitated the movement of vehicles towards the southeast of the country, but the challenge of finally stabilizing the expanding segment still remains to be resolved in the coming months.
