The Security Advisor to the Democratic Party, Xhemal Gjunkshi, has reacted to the statements of the Minister of Defense, Ermal Nufi, describing them as unacceptable and worrying for Albania's strategic relations.

In his reaction, Gjunkshi ironized Nufi's statement, according to which Albania-US relations began in 2015, emphasizing that this approach ignores key historical moments, such as the reestablishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, American support in critical periods, and NATO's role in regional security, including the Kosovo issue.

Xhemal Gjunkshi's reaction:

Ermal Nufi has discovered new history: Albania-US relations began in 2015.
So according to him, what happened before this? 1992? The reopening of diplomatic relations? American support in this country's most critical moments? NATO? Kosovo? All of this is 'prehistory'.
If this is the level of understanding for strategic partnership, then his response to Kuçova is not just weak, it is alarming.
To the direct question: if the US requests the use of the Kuçova base for a military operation, the answer is not 'we will appreciate it'.
Because Albania is not a country that takes its pulse every time its main ally speaks.
The alliance with the US does not deserve a 'we will appreciate it' answer at all, but rather an unquestionable 'YES'.
When you don't understand the history of relations with the US, you start treating it as an option.
And this is more dangerous than any wrong answer.
