Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the war with Russia is expected to continue throughout the winter, while diplomatic efforts to reach a peace agreement continue.

Zelensky's statement came after meetings in Kiev with US President Donald Trump's envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who earlier also held talks in Moscow.

Witkoff called the discussions in Kiev "very significant," emphasizing that Moscow and Kiev must make compromises to overcome differences and end the conflict.

"It will take both sides to compromise and bridge the differences. We believe we have the elements necessary to achieve this," Witkoff declared.

Meanwhile, Zelensky took a more cautious stance, emphasizing that the most complex issues, especially those related to territories, can only be resolved through meetings at the level of heads of state.

The Ukrainian president has long sought a direct meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, but Moscow has so far refused to hold such negotiations.

European advisers from Germany, Great Britain and France also participated in the talks held in Kiev.

Zelensky said that Ukraine is counting on the support of European partners if the war continues through the winter.
