Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that he will meet with US President Donald Trump in New York at the end of September, as part of diplomatic efforts over the war in Ukraine. “At the end of the month we will have the opportunity to meet, I think, with the American team in New York,” Zelenskyy said during a press conference in Canada, referring to a meeting with Trump.

The statement comes after visits by White House special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kiev, where they held talks in an attempt to find a diplomatic way out of the conflict. Zelenskyy also said he does not expect a trilateral Ukraine-Russia-US summit to take place before the Russian parliamentary elections, scheduled for September 20.

According to the Ukrainian president, Ukrainian and American negotiators are in constant contact. He expressed hope that at the meeting with Trump in late September there could be progress in discussions on energy and grain exports. However, recent diplomatic efforts have not yet yielded a concrete agreement, while important issues, including the occupied territory, remain strong points of disagreement between Kiev and Moscow.
