Today, in the studio of the show "With an Open Heart", by author and moderator Evis Ahmeti, attention is brought back to one of the most serious events that shocked public opinion a few months ago. A minor girl was raped by a group of her peers and the footage of the event, after being shared on social networks, went viral, causing a strong public reaction.
But behind those images that everyone saw, there was a girl who had to face alone the fear, shock and psychological consequences of what she had experienced. Today, several months later, she speaks again. This time in her own voice, telling details of that day and the moments that followed. She confesses that it all started after some girls asked her to go with them, telling her that they had a "chat to clarify". She agreed, without knowing what would happen.
"They told me to come and have a chat to clarify things," she says. But what was supposed to be a discussion between peers, according to her testimony, quickly turned into a violent situation. The cause of the clash was an accusation that she had kissed the boyfriend of one of them. An accusation that she categorically denies.
She says that one of the girls was a friend, and she did not know the place where she was taken that day before. According to the girl's testimony, everything lasted about half an hour. When she was released, she did not immediately tell her family what had happened. She went to the hospital because she was not feeling well. She says that she had marks on her face, lips and head and that the pain was so severe that it was difficult for her to lie down.
But, according to her testimony, no one at the hospital asked her about the marks on her body or how they were caused. But, according to her testimony, the moment of fear did not end with her leaving the hospital. When she left, she went to where she was waiting for the bus. According to her, the girls waited for her there too. This time, the group was larger.
In addition to the girls she had seen earlier, she says there were other friends. Alone and shocked, she says she tried to leave and ended up running into a bar.
"They rushed me into the bar," she recounts of that moment. Later, the incident became known to the family. The mother found out through her aunt and the family turned to the institutions. The images of the violence were meanwhile circulating on social networks, making the story public. But the girl says that she herself did not see those images. She does not have a phone and, according to her, she did not follow what was published on the network.
Today, several months after the incident, she says she feels much better. She is back on the course and trying to continue her normal life. She also continues to meet with the psychologist, who, she says, asks her about her day, the course, and how she is coping with everyday life.
Full interview:
Evis Ahmeti: Hello, how are you?
Raped Girl: Okay.
Evis Ahmeti: How was your time?
Raped Girl: Very good.
Evis Ahmeti: How are you feeling these days?
Raped Girl: I feel very good.
Evis Ahmeti: Very good. How is your day going?
Raped Girl: Okay, on the course.
Evis Ahmeti: Okay with the course?
Raped Girl: Yes.
Evis Ahmeti: Are you still going to psychology?
Raped Girl: Yes, I continue.
Evis Ahmeti: What does psychology say?
Raped Girl: Ask me how you got through the course, what you do during the day...
Evis Ahmeti: Meanwhile, these days I believe mom, dad, and sisters have stayed close, right?
Raped Girl: Yes.
Evis Ahmeti: I'm glad, I'm glad. When we were last on the show, I was talking to my sister, there was actually an intervention on your part. You wanted to tell me something at that moment, but I didn't accept it, because you were also not in a good mood, it was the first few days. Now, can you tell me in a few words what happened that day?
Raped Girl: It happened that, they told me, come on, we have a...
Evis Ahmeti: I can't hear you clearly, I don't know why. Maybe you don't have... right?
Raped Girl: They told me to come in and have a chat to clarify.
Evis Ahmeti: Yes?
Raped Girl: I went too, because I didn't know this would happen...
Evis Ahmeti: How many chicks came out before you?
Raped Girl: Just one, …
Evis Ahmeti: Yes?
Raped Girl: And they told me to come, we have something to say, so I went there and then they started...
Evis Ahmeti: The ones we've all seen.
Raped Girl: Yes. Thank you very much!
Evis Ahmeti: Yes, but what did they expect from you? Did you know these girls?
Raped Girl: That, that… …you were telling me that you kissed my boyfriend.
Evis Ahmeti: Yes?
Raped Girl: Yes.
Evis Ahmeti: Just for this?
Raped Girl: Yes, just for that.
Evis Ahmeti: Meanwhile, do you know her boyfriend?
Raped Girl: No, I don't know her at all. I don't even know who she's had a boyfriend with.
Evis Ahmeti: I understand. What about the girl, what kind of acquaintance did you have?
Raped Girl: I had a friend, I had a friend...
Evis Ahmeti: You had been to that house they put you in before, did you recognize it as a house?
Raped Girl: No.
Evis Ahmeti: Whose house was that?
Raped Girl: The House of ….
Evis Ahmeti: I understand. It wasn't either of the parents or...?
Raped Girl: No, she wasn't a parent, she wasn't even a girl, because she has a brother.
Evis Ahmeti: There is also a brother. I understand. Was the house empty that day?
Raped Girl: Yes. Just these three, and there was one over the phone, but I don't know who it was.
Evis Ahmeti: I understand. Then you felt bad for admitting everything, you apologized...
Raped Girl: Yes.
Evis Ahmeti: I believe you wanted to escape from...?
Raped Girl: Yes.
Evis Ahmeti: How long did the whole situation last? What time was it?
Raped Girl: Yes, it's been 12 and a half since I left the course until 1.
Evis Ahmeti: Until 1 o'clock? About an hour?
Raped Girl: Yes.
Evis Ahmeti: I understand. But when they released you, what did they tell you?
Raped Girl: That she ran home. Then, I was in the hospital, I had a serum, I told the doctors that I wasn't well... and then I don't know, they came up to me again when I left the hospital, they approached me with a plan, she...
Evis Ahmeti: I understand. I mean, if you went to the hospital, I believe they would have shot you from behind if they knew.
Raped Girl: Well, maybe, I believe. That day I was alone, that's why. Even when I left the hospital, I was alone. And when I saw them come with five chicks...
Evis Ahmeti: I understand. How long did you stay in the hospital?
Raped Girl: I stayed there for almost half an hour, they gave me a serum and let me go.
Evis Ahmeti: They didn't ask you if you had any symptoms, did they? Where did you have any symptoms?
Raped Girl: Yes, I had marks on my eyes, on my lips, and even on my head, which hurt my head so much that I couldn't keep it lying down.
Evis Ahmeti: I understand. And no one asked you, for example, that…?
Raped Girl: No, no one asked me about the signs.
Evis Ahmeti: Nobody. Did you feel good after the serum?
Raped Girl: Yes, I felt good. Then I called my dad, who said, "What's wrong?" I told him, "I'm sick," I didn't even tell my dad about the incident...
Evis Ahmeti: I understand.
Raped Girl: Even so.
Evis Ahmeti: Obviously. But when you left the hospital, were they at the hospital door or...?
Raped Girl: No, they weren't at the hospital door, they were where I was waiting for the bus.
Evis Ahmeti: I understand. Obviously. Is the bus station far from the hospital?
Raped Girl: It's 5 minutes, 10 minutes.
Evis Ahmeti: I understand. Were all the girls? The ones who were also at home?
Raped Girl: There were three of them and they were… they had other friends.
Evis Ahmeti: It was a larger group.
Raped Girl: Yes.
Evis Ahmeti: Were you raped there too? Were there citizens in Fier who saw you?
Raped Girl: There was someone at the bar, they ran into me...
Evis Ahmeti: Yes.
Raped Girl: And then she left. She came into the bar and she came... she told me that...
Evis Ahmeti: Obviously. When you got home afterwards, you told your mom and went to the police, I believe.
Raped Girl: Mom found out from her aunt.
Evis Ahmeti: I understand. As the aunt said on the show.
Raped Girl: Yes.
Evis Ahmeti: And when you saw the videos on social media, what did you think?
Raped Girl: I haven't seen any videos, because I don't have a phone to go to.
Evis Ahmeti: I understand, I understand, but during the time you've been back to normal now after this incident, have you seen any of those girls?
Raped Girl: No, none.
Evis Ahmeti: No one has bothered you?
Raped Girl: No. I don't know, one is in prison, the other is with this third one, and the other is under house arrest, I believe.
Evis Ahmeti: Yes. No, because they are a larger group, that's why I said. Besides these three.
Raped Girl: No.
Evis Ahmeti: No one has bothered you anymore.
Raped Girl: No.
Evis Ahmeti: I understand. I understand. Well, I'm glad you're very, very well. I believe you have the warmth of your family and the entire community. Everything is fine there at the course, right?
Raped Girl: Yes, very good.
Evis Ahmeti: I'm glad. I believe the psychologist is also pleased with your progress.
Raped Girl: Yes.
Evis Ahmeti: Thank you. Do you have a message for your peers? What would you say to them? Young people who look up to you and who might one day be in your position… or someone for example who might do what those girls who raped you did? What could you say to them for example?
Raped Girl: I don't know, I don't wish it on anyone.
Evis Ahmeti: Clear. Clear.
