The Court for Serious Crimes is reviewing the criminal case against Shkëlqim Miri, a judge at the Tirana Court of Appeals. In the preliminary hearing, Miri's lawyer requested a summary trial, a request that the court, which will review the case on its merits, has decided to grant.
Judge Shkëlqim Miri, accused of corruption in February of this year, requested release from prison at the Court of Appeal, but his request was rejected. Miri appealed the previous decision at the Court of Appeal, requesting release for health reasons.
Tirana Appeals Court Judge Shkelqim Miri was arrested on November 10 on corruption charges. He is accused of accepting a bribe of 30 euros in exchange for a more favorable verdict against Gentian Doda, who was accused of murder in 1997.
We recall that during the search of the apartment, the police found about 300 million old lek. Judge Miri had stated that this amount was money from a friend of his who was going to buy a property in Tirana, while the rest was savings from his salary.
