"The investigation was initiated by the Austrian authorities. The Austrian authorities raised the alarm after a series of concerns raised by citizens there. After two years of investigation, the conclusion was reached that the authorities should intervene and before the intervention could take place, an authorization had to be obtained from the court. The Tirana Court approved the prosecution's request for 9 security measures. 7 of which were prison sentences. The other two were mandatory reporting and a ban on leaving the country, due to the fact that one turned out to be a financier and a woman turned out to be pregnant.
During the checks, other people were also found to be directly connected to these Call Centers. The prosecutor in the case is expected to decide what will happen. A few years ago, I conducted an investigation into Amant Josifi's group and it was connected to Spain and showed how it functioned... They were demanding a lot from them from Albania, a real criminal mechanism had been set up.
So, when a person realized that he had been deceived, they would make a second call and ask for a second amount of up to 1 million euros. Also, the very large extent of the criminal activity of these call centers was in Canada, Italy, the USA, Spain, France, Germany. For the first time, Europol has cooperated with the Tirana Prosecutor's Office. Also, Albania has become a large granary of Call Centers. In this specific case, the monthly profit was estimated at up to 30 million euros," she said.
