Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed today to mutually extend a 48-hour ceasefire until the conclusion of talks between the two sides currently underway in Doha, according to three Pakistani security officials and an Afghan Taliban source.

A Pakistani delegation had already arrived in Doha, while an Afghan delegation was expected to arrive in the Qatari capital the following day, according to the sources who asked to remain anonymous as they were not authorized to speak to the media.

The temporary 48-hour ceasefire that began on Wednesday stopped the heavy clashes between the two countries, which over the past week have caused dozens of deaths and hundreds of injuries, both among soldiers and civilians.
