Member of the Presidency of the Democratic Party, Dorjan Teliti, has reacted regarding the discussions on the new territorial reform, accusing the Socialist Party of intending to use this process for electoral interests and not for the development of local government.

Through a public response, Teliti declares that the territorial reform should have as its main mission local development and not, according to him, “drawing new electoral maps”. He states that he has been engaged in this process from the beginning and assesses that the territorial division of 2014 damaged local economies and contributed to the depopulation of many areas of the country.

According to Teliti, the government is attempting to merge 15 more municipalities, citing Prrenjas, Memaliaj and Belsh as examples, while arguing that this is not being done to increase efficiency, but for political reasons. In his reaction, he compares the approach of the Socialist Party with that of the Democratic Party, claiming that the majority aims for more centralized power and greater control over the vote, while the opposition, according to him, supports a model based on local development, strengthening municipalities and the proximity of services to citizens.

LOCAL DEVELOPMENT OR ELECTORAL BOUNDARIES?
Territorial reform should have only one mission: LOCAL DEVELOPMENT, not drawing new electoral maps!
Engaged in this process from day one, I have seen firsthand how the 2014 map devastated local economies and depopulated entire areas across the country. Nearly half of Albanians were abandoned, left without services and without investment.
​Today, the Socialist Party is trying to play the same game: to eliminate 15 more municipalities. The merger of municipalities like Prrenjasi, Memaliaj or Belshi is not done for efficiency, but simply for party vote arithmetic.
The contrast is obvious:

👉We want inclusive local development, budgets for the citizen, and a municipality at your doorstep!
Albania does not develop or repopulate by closing municipalities, but by turning them into the service of the development and empowerment of every Albanian family and enterprise.
This is our battle and we will not take a single step back until real power is returned to the citizen, wherever he may be!
