The Association of Albanian Journalists, AGSH, has sent the GJKKO regulation to the Constitutional Court.
AGSH Chairman Isa Myzyraj, speaking on the show "Minuta e perë" on News24 emphasized that with this regulation, we go back years, when the process was carried out with pencil and paper.
Meanwhile, journalist Klodiana Lala underlined that the new regulation is a clear violation of the law. She added that the GJKKO did not consult journalists at all.
Head of AGSH, Isa Myzyraj: The regulation has many restrictions, cell phones, recorders are prohibited. We go back many years, when the process was held with pencil and paper. And to enter the hall there are a series of procedures. This regulation violates the public interest, by violating the Albanians' right to be informed about judicial processes, about people who have been prime ministers and ministers, who have misused public money.
Journalist Klodiana Lala: The regulation is a clear violation of the law, it is a regulation that creates chaos. This regulates and bunkers the GJKKO. I covered the work of this court, when it was called the Serious Crimes Court and there has never been this situation that is occurring now. And then there was monitoring of the processes with cameras. This initiative signed by Judge Erjon Bani bunkers the GJKKO. We journalists go through the scanner, we have physical control. The law says that court hearings are public, except in some cases.
Issues of public interest, where there are names of business and organized crime, must be reported. For each session, we have to fill out a form, when I attend up to 10 court processes per day at the GJKKO, so the process is complicated and my work is hindered. Another big scandal is that the journalist must tell the truth, but I am not a witness in the court process.
The GJKKO did not consult with journalists about the changes. It is the media that has made the GJJKOO the headline of the day. We know that there are cases when care must be taken, when dealing with state secrets or when there are minors, we have never violated these cases. But, when Sali Berisha, Ilir Meta, Erion Veliaj, Belinda Balluku go to trial, we must be transparent. This regulation was made, now that there are political people on trial. I will go to trial as a citizen and not as a journalist. Mr. Bani must reflect and remove this illegal regulation.
