Lawyer Greta Ambeli has raised concerns about the lack of proper analysis on road accidents and safety measures, stating that institutions are not treating the loss of lives on the roads seriously.
Invited to the show "News24 "Weekend" with Megi Latifi, Ambeli said that after serious accidents, changes are often made without an in-depth scientific analysis of the causes and problems of the infrastructure.
"Is there really a scientific analysis of accidents? In my opinion, there isn't. A serious incident occurs, the government meets and makes appropriate changes without a scientific analysis," she said.
According to the lawyer, there is a lack of a clear institutional mechanism to analyze the causes of accidents, problematic roads, and concrete measures to prevent them.
"We are talking about a lack of state standards in the way accidents are being handled. This is a problem that is taking people's lives," Ambali declared.
She also emphasized that road accidents not only result in loss of life, but can also cause other social consequences, including conflicts between the families of victims and the perpetrators of accidents.
Speaking about the legal treatment of these cases, Ambali said that some criminal offenses related to accidents have also been affected by amnesties, which according to her has caused dissatisfaction among the victims' families.
The lawyer also criticized public spending priorities, linking the issue of road safety to funds used for other activities.
"We pay 4.2 million euros for Kanye West's concert and with 4.2 million euros we could have done a super project for road safety, which has been promised for years and, to my knowledge as an expert, still does not exist," declared Greta Ambali.
According to her, a national road safety strategy, based on professional analysis and concrete data, is necessary to prevent further tragedies on Albanian roads.
