Lir Dedaj, an Albanian living in England, spoke at News24 about the protest held the day before in front of the Parliament and the Prime Minister's Office and the diaspora's stance on recent political developments in the country.
Dedaj said that during the protest he had noticed a large imbalance between the number of protesters and police forces, while emphasizing that the police had blocked the passage of citizens on the axis near the Parliament.
"Yesterday I saw an imbalance in numbers between protesters and police. The police stopped every citizen from passing through this axis to the Parliament. The protest has had its effects and the government is facing a fear in the face of the protests. I don't understand why there is this fear. This is a protest of the people," he claimed.
He said that the protest, according to him, was peaceful and without acts of violence, while accusing the government of trying to present the protest as violent.
"The protest was peaceful, there was no violence. It is clear from the government side that they want to maintain power through violence and they want to show that the protest will turn into violence. We as a diaspora think that the protest should continue peacefully, but escalate. This protest is an example throughout the world. Escalation is thought to be peaceful," said the activist.
Speaking about future actions, Dedaj also mentioned blocking roads as one of the forms of peaceful protest, emphasizing that this requires broad participation.
"Last night, the road was blocked, peacefully. This action requires unity, large numbers. Other cities must also support it. We are ready to stay for 1 week, 10 days, to be there, without stopping, all day, or all night, in front of the institutions. We have these ideas, let's see where we get to," he concluded.
