Following Sali Berisha's accusations against the Head of the EU Delegation in Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, calling him Edi Rama's ambassador, comes the reaction of diplomats from European Union countries. In a joint statement published on social networks by the Ambassador of Cyprus in Athens, the country holding the EU presidency, Stavros Avgoustides, it is said that they stand united in support of the EU Ambassador and his team, while calling the criticism unjustified.
The response states: "On Europe Day, we stand united in support of the EU Ambassador and his team, and reaffirm our full confidence in their professionalism, integrity and dedicated service."
Meanwhile, the European Commission spokesperson said that such statements are unacceptable.
"The EU strongly condemns the personal attacks made on Europe Day against the Ambassador of the European Union to Albania. The EU Ambassador has acted at all times with complete professionalism and integrity. We have full confidence in him and his work," the reaction states.
A day ago, the democratic leader, during an online conversation with citizens, accused the European Union Ambassador to Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, of saying in Brussels that the opposition does not support Albania's integration.
