A huge fire has engulfed a plastic recycling plant in the US state of Tennessee, creating a large cloud of black smoke.

The flames spread rapidly through the facility's premises, completely destroying three buildings, according to local authorities.

The thick smoke, described as potentially toxic due to plastic materials, has alarmed residents of the area, while emergency teams have been deployed to bring the situation under control.

Authorities have announced that, according to preliminary reports, no one was injured in the incident. The cause of the fire remains unclear and is being investigated by the relevant services.
