Lezha police accompanied and questioned Preng Gjini for several hours, regarding the assassination attempt on Pjetër Kaza at the door of the latter's apartment, where he was shot dead with 12 bullets. Police sources said that the Gjini and Kaza families have been at enmity since 1994 and there are suspicions that Preng Gjini may be involved in the incident.
But, during questioning by investigators, the survivor of an explosive attack denied any connection to the incident and claimed that he was in Tirana at the time of the serious crime. Gjini also provided evidence regarding his alibi, but investigators suspect that he and his wanted cousin played the role of the organizer in the crime.
The clash between the two tribes began in 1994 when the crime boss, Ndue Kaza, was executed in Rresha, who intervened to quell a conflict involving the sons of the Gjini family. 3 years later, on July 3, 1997, Martin Kaza, one of the brothers of the murdered officer, shot the two brothers Dod and Agustin Gjini, in the center of Laç, leaving them dead.
After the murder, he left Albania and went into hiding in the UK, but was only extradited to Albania in 2018. When it seemed that the revenge had ended, in Belgium in 2024, Agustin Kaza, the other brother of the former crime boss, was killed, while on June 1, 2025, at the door of his apartment in Tale, Lezha, Pjetër Kaza, 57, was executed.
The brother of Dod and Agustin Gjini, executed in Laç in 1997, has been declared wanted for his murder. The police state that from the investigations so far, the crime occurred for blood feud motives and the suspects are members of the Gjini family.
