The UN Security Council held closed-door consultations at Bahrain's request, following attacks launched by Iran against the United Arab Emirates on May 4.

Bahrain described the attacks as a serious threat to international peace and security, as well as to navigation, critical infrastructure and stability in the Gulf region.

After the consultations, the United Arab Emirates' permanent representative to the UN said that Iran had fired 12 ballistic missiles, three cruise missiles and four drones at his country. He said the attacks caused a fire in the Fujairah oil industrial zone and injured three civilians.

The diplomat added that since February 28, the United Arab Emirates has intercepted more than 500 ballistic missiles, nearly 30 rockets and over 2 drones, which - according to Abu Dhabi's claims - were launched from Iran.

"What happens in Hormuz does not stay in Hormuz," the Emirati representative declared, warning that tensions in the Strait of Hormuz directly affect global energy markets, supply chains and the international economy.

Bahrain's representative described the attacks as an immediate and serious collective threat to the region and accused Tehran of violating Security Council resolution 2817.
