The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, in a conversation with citizens on social networks, commented on the arrival of the new United States ambassador to Albania and the future relations with the opposition. Berisha welcomed the ambassador, while talking about the fight against organized crime and drug trafficking. He expressed his belief that the American administration will provide, according to him, important assistance in the fight against drug cartels and in what he calls the “dismantling of the narco-state” in Albania.

Excerpts from the conversation

Lawyer Eduard Brahilika: Mr. Berisha, for three years you have articulated the term narcostate and this term is today being discussed in Brussels, in Congress, in the Senate and in the world media. Ambassador Wendt will be in Albania on the 2nd. Do you think you will have a fruitful relationship with him given that you are the only one who fought crime in this country during the years 2005-2009?

Sali Berisha: First of all, I welcome the ambassador and emphasize here that the battle against the narco-state is a very difficult battle.

We are the only country in Europe, we are like Guinea-Bissau, which was the first and only drug-free country in Africa, we became the first and only drug-free country in Europe.

And I am confident that with the positioning and qualification that President Trump and his administration have made of drug cartels as terrorist groups, the United States will provide substantial assistance in the fight against these cartels and the dismantling of the narco-state in Albania.

Secretary Rubio, once again dear friends, in his message of congratulations to Albanians on Independence Day, considers the fight against drug cartels and the associates of these cartels, it is being known who the associates are, as critical to the security of the citizens of the United States.

Because in fact these cartels, the Albanian cartels, are a danger not only for Albania, but for Europe, for the Western Hemisphere and the entire world.
