The Competition Authority has announced that it has started monitoring the bread sales market, following yesterday's report. News24 and BalkanWeb regarding the announcement of bread production and sales enterprises in the city of Korça, which have notified all points of sale that the selling price of bread from 120 lek will be 150 lek, reflecting a simultaneous increase of over 25%.
In accordance with Law 9121/2003 "On the Protection of Competition", the Competition Authority announces that it is immediately carrying out on-site inspections in order to identify whether this notice will be implemented by the enterprises and, above all, whether this behavior is abusive and therefore in violation of Law no. 9121/2003 "On the Protection of Competition".
The CA emphasizes that Law No. 9121/2003 “On the Protection of Competition” prohibits all agreements which have as their object or effect the prevention, restriction or distortion of competition in the market, especially agreements which directly or indirectly fix purchase or sale prices, or any other trading conditions.
The CA also added that violating the law "On the Protection of Competition" constitutes an administrative offense and is sanctioned by a fine of up to 10 percent of the turnover of the previous financial year of the enterprises involved in illegal agreements.
