The Border Police Services of the Korça Local Directorate for Border and Migration have finalized the operation codenamed "Route", cracking down on another case of providing assistance for illegal border crossing for profit. Two citizens have been arrested, who were caught red-handed collecting and transporting immigrants from third countries.
As part of this operation, police officers made it possible to arrest the following citizens:
JM (alias DM), 42 years old, resident of Korça;
ED, 31 years old, resident of the village of Belorta, Maliq.
The verifications carried out revealed that 31-year-old ED was under the security measure "House Arrest", which he broke to return to the criminal activity of providing assistance to illegal immigrants.
The two citizens were caught red-handed in the village of Plasë in Maliqi, where they had gathered around 28 citizens of Sudanese origin. Their scheme envisaged transporting the immigrants in groups of 7-8 people by various means towards Shkodra, with the aim of then illegally crossing the border with Montenegro.
As material evidence, the Border Police seized a vehicle, 6500 euros (suspected to have been obtained from this illegal activity), and 3 mobile phones. The procedural materials were passed on to the Prosecutor's Office at the Korça Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction for further action.
