Analyst and journalist Lavdrim Lita has made public new details regarding the investigations into the seizure of the assets of Ergys Agas and the former director of AKSHI, Mirlinda Karçanaj.
Guest on the show "This Week" on News24Lita stated that the investigations were also prompted by information coming from the United Kingdom, regarding a suspected cigarette smuggling scheme.
According to him, British authorities have identified that a center was operating in Albania where cigarettes were packaged, which were then sold in markets such as Malta and Turkey. "The British have requested an investigation, after they have ascertained this activity and have signaled the Albanian authorities," said Lita.
He added that during the investigation it was discovered that one of the last partners of the company involved in this activity was Ergys Agasi, which led to the seizure of equipment and materials, including telephone communications.
According to Lita, these materials revealed communications between Karçanaj, Agas and Ermal Beqiraj, conducted in an office in the Blloku area of Tirana.
"There was not only talk about cigarettes, but also about state issues," he stated, adding that other people also appear in the secured footage, including police chiefs, justice representatives, businessmen and administration officials.
Lita raised questions about the role of the former director of the National Agency for Public Procurement in these meetings, emphasizing: "What business does such an official have to frequent a private office and discuss tenders with other people?"
