The government has approved a new decision that provides financial compensation for urban, suburban and intercity transport companies, given the special situation in the hydrocarbon market.

The decision signed by Prime Minister Edi Rama and proposed by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy and the Ministry of Finance, provides for a subsidy of 50 lek per liter of fuel for a three-month period: March, April and May 2026.

According to the act approved by the Council of Ministers, the compensation will be calculated on the amount of fuel consumed during this period, but not more than the consumption recorded in the same period of 2025 for each beneficiary entity.

The financial effects of this decision amount to 250 million lek, which will be covered by the state reserve fund and the Tirana Municipality budget, depending on the transport lines.

For the capital's urban lines, financing will be borne by the Municipality of Tirana.

Transport companies will have to submit a monthly request to the tax administration, including a valid license, bank details (IBAN), as well as fuel supply invoices for the relevant periods.

In the case of entities that carry out activities other than transport, a self-declaration of the amount of fuel used for the transport service is also required, as well as additional documentation on the use of vehicles.
