Intense rainfall and river overflow have brought serious consequences to the agricultural areas of the Lezha region.
Entire areas of land have been left under water, damaging agricultural production, especially alfalfa and wheat crops.
Preliminary data collected by local structures indicate that the floods have also affected other crops, while the impact on livestock and housing appears to be more limited.
Two working groups from the Municipality of Lezha have been engaged in the field, which have carried out detailed inspections and verifications to identify the damage.
The Director of Agriculture, Paulin Gjergji, confirms that the evaluation process is nearing completion, based on both the documentation submitted by farmers and on field inspections.
Damage has been recorded on about 1,700 hectares. The largest portion is alfalfa with about 60 percent, followed by wheat with 35 percent, while the remaining areas include olives, cabbage and citrus fruits. Damage is smaller in livestock and housing.
Local authorities announce that after the final report is finalized, the files will be sent to the responsible institutions to continue with the procedures for supporting and compensating the affected farmers.
