A serious incident occurred this Thursday morning, when a police officer was killed and another was injured during an operation to capture a wanted man in Lozhan, Maliqi.

This is because on Thursday morning, an operation was carried out on Mount Boden, after the police had information that the much-wanted Violand Braçellari, sentenced in 2017 to 9 years and 7 months in prison for the production and sale of narcotics, had been hiding in a cabin in the forest for a long time.

Braçellari did not obey the order of the special forces "Eagle" to surrender and opened fire on them, resulting in the death of 34-year-old police officer Enea Mekolli and the injury of his colleague Edison Adri, 36. Other officers fired at the perpetrator, leaving him wounded.

According to sources "News24" has learned that in 2024 the Korça Prosecution Office charged Violand Braçellari with the criminal offense of "intentional minor injury", but in court hearings it is learned that he never appeared.

This is due to the fact that Judicial Police Officers have not found him at his residential address to serve him with a court summons. The same sources indicate that the perpetrator is also being investigated for another incident, where he dragged a person on horseback in Lozhan.

The injured policeman and the perpetrator of the murder were initially taken to Korça Hospital and then flown by helicopter to the Trauma Hospital in Tirana.

While police officer Edison Adri received a bullet in the jaw, and the perpetrator Violand Braçellari received a bullet in the rib, both are out of danger.

Violand Braçellari was wanted by the Vlora Police and was known in Lozana as a problematic person, involved in various criminal incidents.
