An Albanian immigrant, participating in the protest in Skanderbeg Square, spoke about News24 expressing his concerns about the political and social situation in the country.
He said that Albanians deserve to have a dignified place in the European family and that Albania has great potential due to its history and beauties.
"I am an immigrant. We deserve a place in European society, as we deserve. We are a fantastic country that is adored by every foreigner," he said.
The citizen criticized the current government, saying that investments should be focused on the country's development and not on efforts to improve the political image.
"If Rama gave 1 billion euros worldwide to clear his name, if this money were invested in our country, everyone would vote for him," he declared.
He said he feels bad that a country with a rich history has faced, according to him, major corruption problems.
"In a country with such a beautiful history, we have ended up in a very corrupt country. The ignorant here become heroes and the knowledgeable take to the streets," the immigrant said.
According to him, Albanians seek a state where meritocracy prevails and citizens feel free.
"We are here to be proud of our homeland, as our ancestors were. We deserve a European government, where meritocracy is valued and where one feels free, not afraid of patronage and many other things," he said. In the end, the citizen wished that Albania achieves the changes that, according to him, the citizens deserve. Today, many Albanian citizens living in the diaspora have joined the protest.
