The OSCE Presence in Tirana has reacted to the proposal for the draft of the new Criminal Code. In a reaction to BalkanWeb, it is emphasized that this is a fundamental law that requires sufficient time and an extensive public consultation process.
The OSCE says it was not involved in drafting the proposed amendments, but is currently reviewing the published draft. It adds that it is ready to offer concrete recommendations to the new government and parliament.
The heads of justice institutions and the journalists' association have come out against the new draft of the Criminal Code. After the head of the High Court, Sokol Sadushi, the Prosecutor General, Olsian Çela, also expressed opposition, stressing that the draft risks undermining justice.
The head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, has also expressed reservations, raising the question of whether there is really a need for these changes.
