Former England striker Andros Townsend experienced an unusual incident during a Thai league match after being hit by a small pitch maintenance vehicle during a warm-up at half-time.

The 35-year-old, who currently plays for PT Prachuap in Thailand's League 1, was preparing for the second half when one of the opposing team's staff, Patani, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into him.

Townsend fell to the ground and had his left leg trapped under the vehicle for a short time. However, the former Tottenham and Crystal Palace player suffered only minor injuries and, surprisingly, managed to return to the bench later in the match, which ended in a 3-0 victory for his team.

Footage of the incident was widely shared on social media and Townsend went viral on Saturday evening.

The former England striker, who has 13 caps for England, then responded with humour on Instagram. Referring to a previous post in which he compared the sunny weather in Thailand to the cold and windy conditions at Stoke's stadium, Townsend wrote: "Turns out Stoke weren't so bad after all. Watch to see why."
