A serious incident has occurred in the city of Leoben, Austria, where a mother is suspected of stabbing her 12-year-old child to death.

According to preliminary information, the child was stabbed, local media, including Heute, report. Emergency services were notified at around 3 p.m. and immediately intervened in an apartment near the LKH Leoben hospital.

At the scene, rescue teams found a child with a stab wound to the neck. Despite efforts to keep him alive, the 12-year-old did not survive. According to the Kleine Zeitung newspaper, the mother was also found injured.

The Provincial Criminal Police Office has taken over the investigation, while a special investigative team has been sent to the scene. Authorities have not yet provided further details on the circumstances of the incident or whether any suspects have been detained or arrested.
