Egypt coach Hossam Hassan appeared disappointed after their 3-2 loss to Argentina in the World Cup.

"The use of VAR in this way (referring to the disallowed goal) is what generates frustration among the fans, because it seems like they always want to find a way or a reason to disallow goals. Instead of talking about the Egypt goal, everyone is talking about the referees."

"Decisions like that can change the whole course of a World Cup. I completely disagree with that decision. It's a knockout match and they disallowed a very important goal for something that, in my opinion, doesn't justify its disallowance."

He continued: "Maybe they wanted to keep the world champions in the game? Maybe they wanted Messi to stay in the competition? In football, sometimes there are external factors that go beyond the technical aspects. The world champions received support at all levels. I told the referee that what was happening was not fair."
