The United Arab Emirates has denied involvement in an attack on a desalination plant in Iran, following reports suggesting the strike could have been a response to recent Iranian drone and missile attacks in the Gulf region. According to a senior official quoted by The Jerusalem Post, the Emirates has not carried out any such operation. The newspaper’s sources stressed that if involved in a conflict, the Emirates would not target political objects, but only military targets.
Reports of a possible attack came after Qatar was also suspected of carrying out strikes inside Iran in retaliation for Iranian attacks on Gulf countries. Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi is considering its next steps after the escalation of the situation in the region, which followed attacks launched by Israel and the United States against Iran on February 28. Last week, a fire broke out in the oil industrial zone in Fujairah after debris from a drone shot down by air defenses fell in the area.
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, the Emirates is also considering economic measures against Tehran, including the possibility of freezing billions of dollars of Iranian assets, a step that could significantly damage Iran's economic ties with the international financial system.
