Feedback:
In the US Congress, I met with Congressman Robert Aderholt, with whom we discussed further strengthening the strategic partnership between Albania and the United States of America.
During the conversation, I expressed concern about the influence of drug cartels and organized crime in Albania, and emphasized the importance of the U.S. commitment to putting the fight against them at the top of the security agenda. I also raised concerns about the government’s use of the judiciary as a tool to combat political opponents.
Albania, as a NATO member and candidate country for the European Union, must focus on real reforms that strengthen security, democracy and good governance. The strategic partnership with the US remains key and must be strengthened on the basis of shared priorities.
