A 30-year-old Russian man suspected of killing three people at a shooting range in Danilovgrad, Montenegro, has been located in a forest area above the Topla neighborhood in Herceg Novi. According to authorities, the suspect opened fire on police when he was surrounded and then shot himself in the head.
The Director of the Montenegrin Police, Lazar Šćepanović, said that Mihail Šabunjin, a Russian citizen, was located by the police special forces, special units, the Regional Security Center "South" and other specialized structures. "Near the Topla neighborhood, in the forest, they located and isolated the threat - the perpetrator of the triple murder, who at the moment of arrest opened fire and then shot himself in the head," Šćepanović declared.
The serious incident had occurred the day before at the "Češka zbrojevka" shooting range in Danilovgrad. According to authorities and information published by "Vijesti", the 30-year-old killed Nemanja Kapor, 20, from Podgorica, Petar Globarević, 24, also from Podgorica, and Momir Radonjić, 67, from Danilovgrad, Vijesti reports.
All three victims worked at the shooting range where the attack took place. According to the investigation, shortly before 5 p.m., Šabunjin allegedly shot the range instructor, Petar Globarević, several times, then shot him in the head. He then returned to the weapons rental area of the facility and killed Radonjić, before shooting the youngest victim, Nemanja Kaporin.
According to sources involved in the investigation, several bullets were fired at the three victims. The owner of the range, who was sleeping in one of the premises at the time of the attack, managed to survive the massacre.
Investigators are also looking into how the perpetrator used the weapons. A source involved in the investigation said the 30-year-old had fired two guns, using both hands. However, it is not clear whether this happened during the attack or at another time, while security cameras recorded him practicing shooting.
After the murders, Šabunjin is suspected of taking several weapons and ammunition from the range and leaving in a black Seat Cordoba vehicle with the license plate PG-AC472.
