For 11 days, work has begun in the village of Suk 1 in Roskovec to build a gas-fired power plant, a project that is being strongly opposed by the residents of the area.

The power plant will produce energy through the combustion of gas, so residents and environmentalists who have come to the defense of the community say that the emission of smoke and gases will cause major air and agricultural land pollution.

The residents of the village of Suk 1 have also signed a petition, which they have submitted to the Administrative Court of Tirana.

The works for the power plant are expected to last 2 years and the information board only lists the Building Permit, which was issued in February 2025 by the National Council for Territory and Water, signed by former Minister Belinda Balluku.

The joint stock company "Fier Thermoelectric" consists of an Albanian company that owns 30% of the shares and two Greek companies, which are reported to have not renewed their environmental permit.
