The governments of France, Germany and Britain - a diplomatic group also known as the E3 - informed the United Nations on Tuesday that they were ready to activate a clause in the 2015 deal with Iran that would allow the reinstatement of international sanctions on the Islamic Republic if Tehran did not immediately return to the negotiating table with the international community on the issue, the Financial Times reported.

The Iranian government was in talks with the United States over its nuclear program when Israel launched a 12-day war in June, in which the US military intervened, bombing three Iranian nuclear facilities.

The talks were suspended and have not resumed since the ceasefire that ended the conflict announced by Washington.
