Following the fire that engulfed a building near the residential complex in the QSUT area, leaving around 70 families homeless, the Albanian Insurers Association has reacted, describing the event as a serious alarm about the risks that threaten the lives and property of citizens. The association emphasizes that such cases, unfortunately, are not rare and underlines the importance of property insurance as one of the main instruments for the financial protection of families and businesses.

In its response, the Association also opposed statements made by experts, which it said create the wrong perception that insurance does not work in cases of fire. According to the Association, “these claims are incorrect and misleading, directly harming the interests of citizens.”

Insurers' representatives explain that, under standard fire insurance terms, coverage is related to the consequence of the event and not to the technical classification of the cause. This means that even in cases where a fire is caused by electrical faults or other accidental sources, damages are compensated according to the insurance contract.

The association also emphasizes that "every claim for compensation is treated on the basis of facts and contractual rights, guaranteeing a fair and transparent process for citizens."

Full statement
The serious fire incident in the "Farmacia 10" area in Tirana is a serious alarm about the real dangers that threaten the lives and property of citizens, events which, unfortunately, are not rare.

In this context, the Insurers Association of Albania reiterates that property insurance is one of the most important instruments for the financial protection of families and businesses in the face of the consequences of such events.

Finally, incorrect interpretations by so-called “experts” are circulating in the public space, which create the perception that insurance does not work or that compensation is impossible in cases of fire. This is an incorrect and irresponsible interpretation, which risks misinforming citizens. Such statements are not only incorrect, but directly harm the interests of citizens.

For the public's clarification: under standard fire insurance terms, coverage is based on the consequence of the event and not on the technical classification of the cause. This means that in cases where a fire is caused by electrical faults or other accidental sources, damages caused by the fire are compensated in accordance with the terms of the insurance contract.

Any other interpretation is a deliberate misreading or lack of basic knowledge about insurance.

Every claim for compensation is handled on the basis of facts and contractual rights, guaranteeing a fair and transparent process for citizens.

It is important to note that insurance does not replace the obligation to comply with technical and security standards, but rather functions as a necessary layer of financial protection when these risks materialize.

In a reality where urban development is intense and risks are increasing, it becomes even more necessary to raise awareness about property insurance as well as to provide accurate and professional information to the public.

The Insurers Association of Albania calls on citizens not to fall prey to misinformation and to rely on reliable sources.

Insurance does not stop the event, but it guarantees that its consequences are not devastating for families and their economy.
