The Maliq Municipal Council meeting, held today, was marked by tensions and strong debates. The session was called to discuss the balance of damages caused by the November floods and the rainfall of recent days, but the meeting was accompanied by a significant absence of councilors, both from the majority and the opposition.
Farmers from the Maliqi area were present in the hall, closely following the developments of the session.
During the meeting, farmers protested, demanding compensation for the damages suffered, while tensions escalated at various moments.
In a sign of dissatisfaction, they began shouting "Shame" at the councilors and then banged their tables, expressing indignation at the lack of concrete solutions.
According to the farmers, no measures have been taken to compensate for the damages in the Maliq Municipality so far. They have warned that if the situation continues to remain unchanged, the protests will intensify and spread to the entire area.
Those present at the meeting raised concerns that the municipality has not forwarded to the government the necessary documentation to initiate compensation procedures. This situation has been considered by the farmers as a lack of seriousness and a mockery of their problems.
Julian Guri, one of the potential farmers in the territory of the Maliq municipality, calls on farmers to resist.
"No one should move from here, we want concrete answers, let whoever wants come, what will be done. Where are the compensations?" - says the farmer.
The Maliq area is ranked among the most affected by floods in the Korça region, especially in the agricultural sector. According to the latest data, around 3,600 hectares of planted agricultural land are still under water, causing significant economic damage to farmers in the area.
