The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, was questioned by the media today on the 15th anniversary of the events of January 21, 2011, where he reiterated his positions regarding the protest that ended with four victims in front of the Prime Minister's Office.
Berisha stated that he has told everything about this event and that he has also testified in the prosecution, describing January 21 as "the most violent protest in the history of the country", documented and factual. According to him, the protest had a clear political agenda, a fact that, as he said, is also proven by international documents.
He accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of being primarily responsible for organizing the protest, linking it to, according to him, the falsification of an audio recording made by Dritan Prifti. Berisha claimed that in that recording the meaning of the conversation between Ilir Meta and Dritan Prifti was deliberately distorted, presenting it as if Meta was demanding 700 thousand euros, while, according to him, it was about compensation for a company that had suffered losses following a court decision.
"Rama is primarily responsible for falsifying the document and calling for a violent protest with a specific agenda," Berisha declared, adding that he was asked for a political solution with the threat of "walking over corpses."
According to Berisha, regardless of who specifically called the protest, there is one author and main organizer of it, which according to him is Edi Rama. He also referred to the statements of the US government and international institutions, which have demanded a full investigation of the event, from ordinary police officers to the main organizers.
Berisha described Rama's reactions to the victims of January 21 as "crocodile tears," claiming that the protesters were used "as cannon fodder for the government." He said that former Chief Prosecutor Ina Rama investigated the case, but according to him, she never dared to call Edi Rama for an investigation.
Berisha further stated that the Republican Guard acted in accordance with the law and that several people were convicted, but according to him, Rama is trying to use the victims to save himself and his associates.
