Italian authorities have arrested a 17-year-old girl suspected of being involved in extremist Islamic circles and preparing to take part in terrorist attacks. The girl, an Italian citizen, was detained on July 17 by police in the northern Italian city of Pavia and was then sent to a special community for minors, according to procedures provided by the authorities.

According to the investigation, cited by the Athens News Agency, the 17-year-old had created at least four profiles on online platforms and in closed groups where membership was only possible through invitations.

Investigators discovered that these online spaces were linked to jihadist propaganda circles, where propaganda materials of the terrorist organization ISIS were distributed, as well as content that incited violence and the sacrifice of life in the name of the ideology of the Islamic State. During the control of online communications, the authorities also seized written conversations in which, according to investigators, the minor expressed her willingness to carry out a terrorist attack and sacrifice her life.

The investigation continues to uncover the extent of her involvement, possible contacts with other individuals, and whether there was a concrete plan to carry out an attack.
