The health condition of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is improving, after he was transferred from the intensive care unit (ICU) to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the private DF Star clinic in the capital Brasilia, where he was admitted on Friday with bronchopneumonia.
His wife, Michelle Bolsonaro, announced via Instagram that "since the inflammation indicators show improvement, my beloved has been transferred to an intensive care unit. We remain optimistic that he will overcome this adventure. Thank you for your love and prayers."
Bolsonaro, 70, who was sentenced to 27 years in prison for plotting a coup to stay in power despite losing the 2022 election to current Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, has been in poor health since a 2018 knife attack during an electoral rally in Minas Gerais state and has undergone several surgeries.
The Supreme Court rejected his lawyers' request to serve his sentence under house arrest. "They are playing with my father's life," his son, Flavio Bolsonaro, who will run for president in October, complained recently.
