Ajola Xoxa, the wife of the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, appeared this morning at the Special Prosecutor's Office (SPAK), as part of the "compulsory appearance" security measure.
Xoxa has been officially named a defendant along with her husband, Erion Veliaj, who faces several serious charges such as corruption, money laundering, concealment of assets, and introduction of illegal items.
SPAK suspects that the Veliaj-Xoxa couple is involved in a large and structured money laundering scheme.
For his part, Veliaj has rejected all accusations, calling them political and unfounded.
