Law enforcement authorities in Kosovo have confirmed the discovery of human remains at the third suspected mass grave location in the municipality of Zubin Potok.

The Kosovo Police and the Special Prosecution Office announced that during the investigative actions being carried out in this area, the presence of mortal remains has been confirmed, while forensic teams are continuing the necessary examinations and procedures to clarify the circumstances.

"During the ongoing investigative actions regarding the case in Zubin Potok, the presence of mortal remains was identified and confirmed at the third suspected location," the joint statement of Kosovo institutions states.

The excavations in Zubin Potok have begun after a two-year investigation and suspicions that these areas may contain mass graves with the remains of people who disappeared during the 1998-1999 war in Kosovo. The investigations are also related to the arrest of three people suspected of war crimes.

Forensic teams are working at three locations, including the villages of Kalludër e Vogël and Jakubë, while authorities have announced that the process could take a long time due to difficult terrain and the possible scattering of human remains.

Kosovo institutions have asked the international community to pressure Serbia to cooperate and open military archives, with the aim of clarifying the fate of persons missing during the war.

According to data from Kosovo institutions, around 1,577 people remain missing from the last war in Kosovo, most of them Albanians.

Authorities have stressed that it is still too early to determine the identities of possible victims and that investigative procedures should be maintained until forensic analyses are completed.
