The Vice President of the National Integration Council, Toni Gogu, stated today during the presentation of this council's annual report in Parliament that Albania has done titanic work on the path towards the European Union.
"At the end of this legislature, as we consider the annual report of the National Integration Council, we must speak properly. Where Albania has arrived today, if we look back, we are close to the dawn of 2030, when this country will become part of the family that has been denied it for many decades. Today, European integration is the greatest national consensus that we have, this was also observed in the work of the National Integration Council, where our president, although a loner in most meetings, stood stoically at the head of that Council, chairing dozens of meetings," he said.
Gogu said that so far 5 group chapters have been opened and the sixth is expected in the fall.
"Albania's foreign policy is completely aligned with EU policy. Albania is the EU's most strategic, most secure ally in the Western Balkans. What was said a few days ago by Commissioner Kos, that Albania's future is in the EU, is the reality of every Albanian," said Gogu.
He also mocked the opposition for the statements of the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, who called Albania the only narco-state in Europe.
"You tried to smear Albania like a drug den, while farmers struggle from morning to night to feed this country, the same thing with teachers and firefighters. Patient zero of Albanian corruption cannot come out and defend corruption by smearing Albania," he said.
"The latest EU reports see Albania as a leader in the region, not only by Europeans, but also by Albanian citizens. So when we discuss the work of the National Council for European Integration, let us be up to the task. The EU's trust in Albania is absolute. We are not afraid of criticism, those criticisms are sounds that make us work harder, so you see the governing majority at the grassroots level with the citizens, with the people, to discuss how the EU will go to the countryside, in the financial, banking, commercial market," said Gogu.
