US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has asked lawmakers in Congress to urgently approve a $67 billion additional funding package for the Pentagon, arguing that the funds are necessary in the context of the conflict with Iran.
During a congressional hearing, Hegseth stressed that the US military faces immediate logistical and operational needs, while requesting additional funding to support military missions.
According to him, the package includes $1.5 billion to address critical fuel shortages, necessary for military operations, as well as $2 billion to replace equipment lost or damaged during the fighting.
The Pentagon chief's request comes at a time when the security situation in the Middle East remains uncertain and the US administration is preparing for various scenarios related to the conflict with Iran. The $67 billion package aims to guarantee the operational readiness of the US armed forces and support their missions.
