Gentian Doda, the man who corrupted the judiciary and escaped a 20-year prison sentence for murder, was extradited from England today. Thanks to the cooperation between Interpol Tirana and Interpol Manchester, Doda, 41 years old, born in Tirana, a highly wanted person with a high social risk, was recently captured and arrested in the United Kingdom.

Doda was declared internationally wanted after: The Tirana Court of First Instance for Serious Crimes, with criminal decision no. 416, dated 10.11.2017, had imposed the security measure "Arrest in prison" for the criminal offense "Active corruption of a judge, prosecutor and justice officials".

Also, the Tirana Court of Appeal, with criminal decision no. 1249, dated 09.11.2017, imposed the security measure "Arrest in prison" for the criminal offense of "Introducing or keeping prohibited items in the institution for the execution of prison sentences".

Summary of the event:
Gentian Doda, in collaboration with other citizens, gave an amount of 30.000 euros to the judge of the Tirana Court of Appeal, Shkëlqim Miri, in order to ease his position and release him from prison in order to change the decision of the Mat Judicial District Court, which, with criminal decision no. 41, dated 26.01.2001, had sentenced this citizen to 20 years in prison for the criminal offenses of "Premeditated Murder" and "Unauthorized Possession of Weapons, Explosive Weapons and Ammunition".

The Tirana Court of Appeal, with criminal decision no. 896, dated 07.06.2017, has decided to leave in force the criminal decision no. 94, dated 20.09.2016 of the Mat Judicial District Court, favoring the position of citizen GD and his release from prison. As a result of the cooperation of Interpol Tirana with Interpol Manchester, his arrest in the United Kingdom became possible, finalizing his extradition to our country.

Accusations of murder and bribery
In addition to the High Court process, which will decide whether to return Gentian Doda to prison for the double murder committed in the town of Burrel in 1997, the wanted man has another unresolved score with the Serious Crimes Court, where he is being tried on corruption charges. He is suspected of paying a bribe of 20 euros to the Appeals Judge, Shkëlqim Miri, who reduced his charges and in this way, Doda regained his freedom.

Gentian Doda was extradited from the United States of America in 2012, after being arrested there on behalf of Albanian authorities. He was accused of the murder of Gazmir Dedja and Asllan Gjoka in October 1997. After a long ordeal of court battles, starting in 2001, the much-talked-about criminal was sentenced to 20 years in prison. While in prison in Fushë Krujë, he requested a review of the decision, arguing that he had been sentenced in absentia.

From the High Court, the file reached the First Instance Court in Mat. A three-judge panel decided to ease the position of the convicted person, reclassifying the criminal offense from murder to intentional serious injury. Investigations launched in 2017 revealed that Judge Shkëlqim Miri had taken bribes to rule in favor of Doda, who was found guilty of the charge of injury and his sentence was significantly reduced. After the Appeals Court verdict, Gentian Doda regained his freedom. He was able to escape abroad, while the judge and relatives and friends of the convicted person were arrested in Albania.
