During the meeting of the Committee on Tourism, Culture and Diaspora, chairwoman Ina Zhupa clashed with two socialist MPs, Arkend Balla and Erion Malaj, regarding the issue of violence in opposition protests.
During the debate, Zhupa said:
"For the state, the most dangerous is what is called structural violence. The violence that poverty produces, the violence that the arrogance of power produces, the violence that comes from the inability to educate children, the violence that the state produces when it kicks you out of the house. That is the most dangerous violence against Albanian citizens. That is the reason why Albania has not managed to return to a functional democracy.
In the latest Transparency International report, we were only 39 points out of 0–100, which is the measurement scale, being considered a corrupt country and far from democratic standards. The violence of corruption is when you can't do anything without having money to corrupt someone, when you can't win a right that is yours. These are features of states with dictatorial tendencies, which, although they don't beat people in the street, exercise the violence of a power that oppresses you.
"This is the violence that this majority has produced against the citizens. Their reactions in sign of revolt can never be compared to the damage that the government has caused them."
